Škocjan Caves are a cave system in the Karst of the Obalno-kraška region, where the Reka river disappears underground and flows through a deep canyon inside the cave. The system is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its vast underground chambers and the bridge high above the river. The caves lie near Divača and are visited on guided tours.

Day 1
Vilenica is a karst cave on the Karst plateau in southwestern Slovenia, near the village of Lokev not far from Sežana. It is widely regarded as one of the oldest show caves in Europe, with large halls decorated by dripstone formations. It makes an easy addition to a day exploring the Karst region and its villages.
Socerb Castle is a medieval castle standing on the edge of the karst plateau above the village of Socerb, in Slovenia's coastal-karst region close to the Italian border near Trieste. Its position on the escarpment gives wide views over the Gulf of Trieste and the surrounding countryside. It makes an easy stop for anyone exploring the Karst edge between Kozina and Koper.
Good to know
Škocjan runs guided tours only — book in summer; the walk through the canyon is 500 steps and 10 °C. Vilenica opens on weekend afternoons outside summer. Socerb is a restaurant in a castle: the terrace is the point, go for the view before sunset.
