Postojna Cave is a large karst cave system on the edge of the town of Postojna in the Primorsko-notranjska region. Visitors travel deep into the cave by a small underground train before continuing on foot past halls of stalactites and stalagmites, and the cave is also known as home to the olm, the blind cave salamander. It is an easy day trip from Ljubljana, and the visit is a guided underground walk on paved paths.

Black Cave (Črna jama) is a karst cave in the Primorsko-notranjska region, part of the cave landscape around Postojna. It is known for darker passages than its neighbours, and it belongs to the wider Postojna cave system. Pivka Jama is a karst cave in the Primorsko-notranjska region of inner Slovenia, where the Pivka river flows underground. It belongs to the same karst landscape as the better-known caves around Postojna, a few kilometres to the south. Expect a walk down into a collapse doline and along underground passages, so bring sturdy shoes and a warm layer.
The Great Paradana Ice Cave is a cave on the Trnovo Forest plateau in the Goriška region, above the Vipava Valley. As an ice cave, it holds snow and ice through much of the year, which makes it an interesting stop for those exploring the karst landscape of the plateau. The area is reached by forest roads and trails, so plan it as a walk in wooded upland terrain.
Dobrovo Castle is a Renaissance castle in the village of Dobrovo, the main settlement of the Goriška Brda hills in western Slovenia near the Italian border. It is a good stop for anyone exploring the region's vineyard villages, and the castle's surroundings offer views over the rolling Brda landscape. Dobrovo lies a short drive north-west of Nova Gorica.
Wild Lake (Divje jezero) is a small lake fed by a karst spring that rises from a deep underwater shaft at the foot of a steep forested cliff. After heavy rain the water can surge up and spill into the short Jezernica stream, one of the shortest rivers in Slovenia. It lies just outside Idrija in western Slovenia and is reached by an easy walk.
Gewerkenegg Castle is a castle in the town of Idrija, in the Goriška region of western Slovenia. Its history is tied to the town's long mercury-mining past, and today it houses the Idrija municipal museum. It stands in the centre of Idrija, so a visit fits easily into a walk around the old mining town.
